REP. ROB ANDREWS AWARDS ARMY HERO BRONZE STAR
July 1, 2003

On Tuesday, I had the distinct pleasure of presenting Mr. David Dorflinger Bronze Star Medal for his service in 1965 in the Dominican Republic during its Civil War.  Mr. Dorflinger served as a Corporal in the US Army.  He was sent to the Dominican Republic to prevent Cuban troops from invading that island nation and assisting the rebel troops from toppling the legitimate Dominican government.  On behalf of all of the residents of South Jersey, I would like to thank Mr. Dorflinger for his heroic service to his country.

The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the military of the United States distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service. Mr. Dorflinger has been awarded the Bronze Star for coming to the aid of an injured soldier while they were both under heavy fire, at great personal risk to himself.  My office has been working on his behalf for nearly two years to obtain for Mr. Dorflinger his Bronze Star, a correction to his records, and a certificate signed by the Secretary of the Army.  I am please to report that we have succeeded in providing this true American hero with the honor he deserves.
