REP. ANDREWS HOSTS GRANT WRITING WORKSHOP FOR AREA FIRE DEPARTMENTS
On February 18, 2005, I will be hosting a grant writing workshop. This will be presented in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for South Jersey fire departments. The workshop, scheduled to start at 7pm at the Bellmawr Fire and Rescue #1, Station 32 in Bellmawr, NJ will feature a brief two hour presentation and Question and Answer session with an official from the Office of Domestic Preparedness. The Office for Domestic Preparedness, (ODP) is primarily responsible for preparing our country for acts of terrorism. ODP grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provide our nation's fire departments with training, funding for the purchase of new equipment, and support for the planning and execution of exercises. South Jersey Fire Departments will obtain valuable information on how to apply for competitive federal grants under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Additionally, the ODP official will highlight the application period which is tentatively scheduled for March 7 to April 8, 2005. As Co-Chairman of the Congressional Fire Caucus, I supported the legislation that strengthened the federal government's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Since its inception, this program has been one of the best tools to keep our nation's firefighters well trained and equipped to defend our homeland security. In recognition of this important program, Congress has appropriated over $600 million dollars specifically for fire grants this year. I encourage all area fire departments, career and volunteer, to take advantage of the benefits of this informative workshop and I look forward to supporting South Jersey's fire departments through their grant funding application process. For more information about the workshop, please contact my District Representative, Matthew Jarrett at my Haddon Heights District Office, (856) 546-5100.
