REP. ANDREWS SECURES $650,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDING TO AID CAMDEN CITY'S HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM
On February 14, 2005, my office received notification that the Camden City Housing Authority will receive two grant awards totaling $650,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grants will provide the Camden City Housing Authority with the opportunity to allocate $350,000 for the ROSS Homeownership Supportive Services and $300,000 for the ROSS, Resident Service Delivery Model. I was pleased to lend my support for both grant proposals on behalf of my constituents in Camden City. As you know, public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities in our country. Through the Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency Grant Program, Camden City's Housing Authority will utilize the funding to help move public housing tenants toward an easy transition to homeownership. To prepare for homeownership, Camden City residents will be offered such support services as credit counseling, asset building, employment training, and job placement to help residents achieve their goal for independent living. I am pleased to bring back this necessary funding to Camden City to provide public housing residents with the ability to become self-sufficient while experiencing for the first time the benefits of homeownership. Through supportive services like this, Camden City's neighborhoods continue to become stronger unities of self sufficient families.
