REP. ANDREWS ANNOUNCES $217,550 GRANT TO LINDENWOLD FIRE DEPARTMENT

I am pleased to announce the award of $217,550 to the Lindenwold Fire Department through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. This competitive grant was established through Congress to provide federal financial assistance to local fire departments in need of lifesaving equipment and unable to fund the expense. Fire departments within the First Congressional District of New Jersey have thus far received $1,084,159 in FY2005 and I am pleased to say that I have helped bring $5,336,605 home to our District since the program's inception.

The Lindenwold Fire Department consists of three volunteer fire companies and covers approximately 17,500 residents. With their Assistance to Firefighters Grant award, Lindenwold's firefighters will be supplied with replacement air packs to ensure firefighter safety when responding to a crisis. In addition, these firefighters will receive updated radio equipment to facilitate improved communication between all of our first responders.

I congratulate Mayor Frank DeLucca, Fire Chief Mike Nolan, and the heroic firefighters of the Lindenwold Fire Department on prevailing in this competition for these additional resources which will at the same time help to keep Lindenwold's residents safe and help to ease the burden on the town's budget.  I am pleased to have helped secure this funding and it is my ongoing mission to ensure all first responders in my District have the resources they need to perform their duties safely and effectively.
