REP. ANDREWS ANNOUNCES $64,253 GRANT TO VOORHEES FIRE DISTRICT
I am pleased to announce the award of $64,253 to the Voorhees Fire District through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. This competitive grant was established through Congress to provide federal financial assistance to local fire departments in need of lifesaving equipment and unable to fund the expense. Fire departments within the First Congressional District of New Jersey have thus far received $1,129,159 in FY2005 and I am pleased to say that I have helped bring $5,381,605 home to our District since the program's inception.
With their Assistance to Firefighters Grant award, Voorhees’ firefighters will be supplied with Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) packs and tools to aid in the rescue of downed firefighters. These firefighters put their lives on the line every day and deserve the tools needed to rescue their own.
I congratulate Mayor Michael Mignogna, and the heroic firefighters of the Voorhees Fire Department on prevailing in this competition for these additional resources which will at the same time help to keep Voorhees’ residents safe and help to ease the burden on the town's budget. I am pleased to have helped secure this funding and it is my ongoing mission to ensure all first responders in my District have the resources they need to perform their duties safely and effectively.
