REP. ANDREWS JOINS SENATORS LAUTENBERG AND MENENDEZ IN OPPOSITION TO JUDGE SAMUEL ALITO’S U.S. SUPREME COURT CONFIRMATION
On January 31, 2006 my colleagues, U.S. Senators Lautenberg and Menendez, voted against the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court. I share in their concern that Judge Alito will erode women’s rights, give the president broad new powers, and protect big business over individual rights.
I applaud Senators Lautenberg and Menendez in their vote against the nominee. While Judge Alito is a New Jersey native with a substantial intellect, his documented history shows that he leans further to the right than the American public. The Senators are correct to assume that Judge Alito is a threat to longstanding settled law. As representatives of the State of New Jersey, Senators Lautenberg and Menendez have done their duty to protect the individual rights of every American.
