REP. ANDREWS WORKS TO RESOLVE NATIONAL PARK RESIDENTIAL FLOODING PROBLEM
To resolve the recent groundwater flooding problem that has plagued the homes of numerous National Park residents, I recently met with National Park residents, Borough officials and the Army Corps of Engineers to discuss remediation of Princeton Avenue. As a result of that meeting, I have asked the Army Corps of Engineers to survey the ground water to determine the groundwater flow problem so that a long term solution can be attained to prevent any health risks to National Park residents and to prevent any future property damage.
I am happy to announce that the Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to conduct a study of the groundwater flow and will be installing piezometers into the ground water along Princeton Avenue. A piezometer is a shallow-well meter that measures the flow of groundwater and determines its direction. Additionally, the Army Corps of Engineers will also be monitoring how the groundwater changes with the tides. The Army Corps of Engineers will collect the data at its own expense so that the residents of National Park and Borough Officials will not be financially burdened further.
Once the data is gathered, I have asked the Army Corps of Engineers to share their findings with my office, the residents and National Park Officials so that a feasible plan can be implemented to permanently stop the flooding of the homes on Princeton Avenue. I remain committed to securing the results from the Army Corps of Engineers and will hold them accountable should the findings determine that the Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the flooding problem.
