REP. ANDREWS COMMENDS USSNJ VOLUNTEERS FOR REACHING MILESTONE OF 300,000 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE
It was my extreme pleasure to join the numerous volunteers aboard the USSNJ on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 to mark the milestone of 300,000 hours of dedicated volunteer service. During my visit, I had the opportunity to extend my personal thanks and appreciation to the USSNJ volunteers who have so selflessly donated their time and talents to the preservation and restoration process of our nation’s most decorated battleship, The Big “J.”
Through their hard work and outstanding contributions, the USSNJ volunteers have truly played an integral part in bringing the history of the Battleship NEW JERSEY to life for the thousands of visitors who tour this floating museum which is now permanently berthed on the Delaware River in Camden. Some of the responsibilities of the volunteers include, applying new paint to the USSNJ, cleaning and preparing areas of the USSNJ for museum display and repairing hatches and doors to be utilized for the guided tours. Other volunteers serve as docents who study the ship’s history and host guided tours.
In great appreciation and in recognition of the 300,000 hours of volunteer service, I extend my best wishes to the prideful USSNJ volunteers as they continue to preserve the USSNJ for generations to come.
