REP. ANDREWS NOMINATES CANDIDATES TO U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES: CONGRATULATES CANDIDATES AND FAMILIES
On Monday, March 28, 2005, I had the pleasure of formally nominating 14 candidates to the United States Military Academies. The formal presentation, which took place at Camden County College, provided me with the opportunity to congratulate and extend my best wishes to the candidates. I also applauded their families for a job well done in raising such conscientiousness and patriotic children who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the freedom and security of our nation.
The service academies offer not only a first class education, but invaluable skills such as leadership, discipline and communication skills which are necessary to become an officer in our nation’s military and which are desirable in any job market.
Candidates under consideration before my Academy Committee completed a rigorous application process. Their applications were reviewed under criteria which included class rank, GPA, SAT scores, athletic ability, and leadership skills. After obtaining my Congressional nomination, candidates can be offered formal appointments to the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
As my candidates receive these formal appointments, I continue to stay in touch with them. Over the years, I have enjoyed hearing from the young men and women from my district about the progress they make. I am confident that their education and training will certainly benefit them as they embark on new responsibilities and challenges in preparation for their military careers. On behalf of the First Congressional District of New Jersey, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the nominees as they become the next generation of leaders for our nation’s military.
