REP. ANDREWS ANNOUNCES $27,000 FIREFIGHTERS GRANT AWARDED TO CHEWS VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY: GRANT WILL ASSIST DEPARTMENT WITH FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY TACTICS

It is my pleasure to announce that Chews Volunteer Fire Company # 1 in Blackwood has been granted a $27,000 grant award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Preparedness. The grant, which was awarded under the Assistance to Firefighters Program, will afford the Chews Volunteer Fire Company # 1 the opportunity to continue to address vital issues of fire prevention and safety by conducting fire education and prevention programs throughout our South Jersey community.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban, and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. This grant funding increases the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, emergency medical service programs, and fire prevention and safety programs in local departments.

Because I believe it is imperative for our fire departments to continue to pursue prevention and safety tactics to safeguard themselves, our families and children from fire injuries, I have continued to support the applications of our area fire departments since the inception of this program in 2001. As a result, the First Congressional District of New Jersey has received $4,252,446 since the inception of the program.

Since our firefighters are the first to respond when a disaster occurs, I will continue to work closely with our firefighter community to ensure that their needs are met. Our nation’s firefighters should always be equipped with the resources they need to do their job, improve safety and ultimately save lives.
