Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on GAO Report on Regulation B

WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Representative Melvin L. Watt (D-NC), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, today announced that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing to examine key findings of a recently completed Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report on the Federal Reserve Board’s regulation B, which implements the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.  Regulation B prohibits the collection of race, gender or other demographic data for non-mortgage loans, except for self-testing purposes.  This hearing will examine the GAO Report and the impact of Regulation B on fair lending.

Congressman Watt said, “I look forward to hearing from the GAO, the Federal Reserve Board and industry representatives on the ramifications of Regulation B and whether reforms are needed to ensure fair lending practices.”
