Andrews Issues Statement in Support of Governor Corzine's Efforts to Cease ACOE Dredging

Haddon Heights, NJ – This afternoon Congressman Andrews issued the following statement in support of Governor’s Corzine’s request that the New Jersey Attorney General prepare appropriate legal action against the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) if they proceed in their plans to dredge the Delaware to a 45-foot depth:

"Today, Governor Corzine called on the New Jersey Attorney General to prepare legal action against the Army Corps of Engineers to stop any effort to deepen the Delaware River to 45 feet. By advancing their efforts to dredge the Delaware despite failing to abide by mandatory environmental regulations, the Army Corps has carelessly placed the health and well-being of our residents at stake.

The Army Corps has announced plans to dump virtually all of the dredge spoils in South Jersey and we will never stand for it. I applaud Governor Corzine for taking a stand against the Army Corps to insist that millions of tons of dredge spoils are not dumped in South Jersey. I will fully support New Jersey's legal efforts to stop this waste of taxpayer's money and risk to the environment."
