Baca Pitches Complete Game to Earn Democratic MVP Honors Washington, DC – Yesterday evening, Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) pitched a complete 7-inning game to lead the Democratic team to victory at the 48th Annual Congressional Baseball Game, played at Nationals Park. Rep. Baca was the only pitcher who took the mound for the Democrats and led his team to a 15-10 victory over Congressional Republicans. Baca’s performance earned him the Democratic MVP Award for the game, marking the sixth time he has won the honor. Since its inception in 1962, the Congressional Baseball Game has become a Washington summer tradition. Democratic and Republican Members of Congress square off with proceeds from the game going to two local charities: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and the Washington Literacy Council. This year’s game raised more than $100,000 for the two organizations. “I look forward to many more years of competition and fun with my Democratic and Republican colleagues on the field,” continued Rep. Baca. “Last night’s victory was made even more special because I had the opportunity to share it with my family in attendance: my daughter Natalie, her husband Anthony, and my grandchildren, little Anthony and Sally.” “With our strong showing this year, and the nucleus of our team in place, I am confident the Democrats will continue our winning streak over the Republicans at both the polls and on the baseball diamond,” concluded Rep. Baca. # # # |
