Gingrey hails passage of partial-birth abortion ban

U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey hailed passage Thursday of the conference report to ban partial-birth abortion procedures.

“This bill focuses narrowly on an abhorrent technique that, in my medial opinion, represents infanticide. In my career as an Ob/Gyn, I never came across an instance where this procedure was needed to protect the health or to save the life of the mother,” Gingrey said. “Today, I was thrilled to vote to stop this gruesome act that defies the value Americans place on human life.”

The conference report now goes back to the Senate, where passage is expected. The bill then goes to the president for his signature.

An abortionist who violates this ban would be subject to fines, a maximum of two years imprisonment, or both.  This ban includes an exception for those situations in which a partial-birth abortion is deemed necessary to save the life of the mother.
