Rep. Phil Gingrey will travel to Israel Saturday on an educational trip sponsored by the American Israel Education Foundation. The goal of the trip is to familiarize the congressman with U.S.-Israel relations, the Middle Ease peace talks, Israel's security situation, and the status of important economic and political trends in Israel.
“I’ll be traveling through Israel at a particularly tense time, right on the heels of a bus bombing that killed more than 20 people,” Gingrey said. “I’m certainly concerned by the ongoing violence, but this trip takes place at a critical juncture for the Middle East and I look forward to talking with leaders who’ll play an important role, I hope, in restoring peace while keeping the Israeli people secure.”
Gingrey will participate in several high-level meetings with a wide variety of leaders-Israeli, Palestinian, secular, religious, government, opposition, as well as experts in the peace process, U.S.-Israeli defense cooperation, and Israel's economy.
The American Israel Education Foundation is an educational foundation affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). AIEF sponsors, among other things, education programs such as trips to Israel for community leaders and elected officials, seminars on Middle East issues at universities across the country, and other projects that help to educate the general public about U.S.-Israel relations.
