At the request of U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, the Appalachian Regional Commission approved a $285,400 grant to the city of Rockmart to improve infrastructure in the Highway 101 Industrial Park and support the creation of 60 new jobs.
“This is great news for Polk County,” Gingrey said. “Thanks to this infrastructure development, good jobs are coming to Rockmart. I’m committed to this type of economic development.”
In addition to the grant, the city of Rockmart will match the federal contribution, bringing the total investment to $570,800.
This project is part of a previously initiated larger infrastructure project intended to serve the needs of both current and future industry in the industrial park. It will provide adequate water and sewer infrastructure capacity for existing, expanding and proposed industry in the park. For instance, this project will provide capacity for the expansion of Jefferson Southern Corp.’s facility and for the planned establishment of Coosa Valley Technical College’s Economic Development Center.
Gingrey wrote Gov. Sonny Perdue in March to request the funding.
“It’s great that this plan, this idea, will come to fruition,” Gingrey said. “New jobs breed more new jobs.”
