Washington, D.C.— Iowa Congressman Steve King announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will be issuing the proposed rule for the Conservation Security Program (CSP).
"This long-awaited proposed rule is an important step toward helping producers with conservation tillage, nutrient management and grazing management," said King.
King wrote Secretary Ann Veneman in June urging her to issue the proposed rule as soon as possible and successfully worked to fund the program in the FY2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. The CSP was created in the 2002 Farm Bill in order to assist agricultural producers with conservation practices on working lands. Priority for participation will be given to environmentally sensitive areas in targeted watersheds.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the Bush Administration and agricultural organizations as we strive to get this program up and running," King concluded.
