CHICAGO, IL—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives joined Mayor Daley and CEO of Chicago Public Schools Arne Duncan at the Marine Military Academy, to officially Commission the launch of the new school. Chicago Public School’s Marine Military Academy provides Chicago’s young men and women with a college prep education that focuses on Math and Science. Emanuel secured $300,000 in federal funding for the Military Academy in the Fiscal Year 2007 Department of Defense Appropriations Act.

Chicago Public Schools has five Military Academies: Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville (Army), Carver Military Academy (Army), Phoenix Military Academy (Army) and Rickover Academy (Navy). Marine Military Academy is the nation’s first public Marine Military Academy.
Created in conjunction with Argon National Laboratory, the Marine Military Academy offers a unique JROTC program stressing leadership, accountability, and results with a formal discipline code of conduct in a college preparatory environment. The Marine Academy provides Chicago’s students with an excellent choice for secondary education with a rigorous math and science oriented college preparatory curriculum. The Marine Academy provides a focused and disciplined learning environment guided by a team of mentors, teachers and retired military instructors.
Since he was sworn in as the U.S. Representative for Chicago’s Fifth Congressional District, Emanuel has been a leader in supporting Chicago public schools.
