(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves issued the following statement after Northwest Missouri State University claimed their third Division II National Championship on Saturday with a 30-23 win over the Grand Valley State University Lakers in Florence, Alabama.

“I want to extend my congratulations to the student-athletes of Northwest Missouri State University on a remarkable season and a great finish. Head coach Mel Tjeerdsma and his staff lead the Bearcats back to the championship game for the fifth consecutive season and seventh time overall. The game on Saturday was a testament to their perseverance and work ethic, not just this season, but for the last five years.

I would also like to congratulate President John Jasinski, Athletic Director Bob Boerigter, and the entire University family on ensuring that the student-athletes at Northwest Missouri State have the resources and support to compete anyone in the nation.
