Scores in House’s Top 20 for Voting to Reduce Taxpayer Burden |
|
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC)
recently received the National Taxpayers Union’s “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.”
Representative Jones was honored in recognition of his commitment to reduce
federal spending and ease the burden on American taxpayers.
“The typical American family already spends more than 38 percent of its income on taxes,” Jones said. “That is more than most families spend on food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, combined. Our nation’s families simply cannot afford any more taxes. I appreciate this recognition and will continue fighting in favor of reducing taxes for our American families.” Each year, the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union compiles the results of every vote on legislation to control or reduce federal spending, including taxes, debt, and regulation. The data is compiled into a rating of all pro-taxpayer House Members and Senators for the preceding year. Based on his 1999 voting record, Congressman Jones ranked in the top 20 of all 435 Members of the House of Representatives. “Representative Jones’ pro-taxpayer score of 71% was one of the best
in the entire House,” said John Berthoud, President of the National Taxpayers
Union. “By consistently voting to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt,
Representatives Jones has truly earned the title, ‘Taxpayers’ Friend.’”
