| Washington, D.C. — Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-NC) was
recognized for his pro-taxpayer voting record during the 106th Congress
by the National Tax Limitation Committee (NTLC). NTLC President Lewis
K. Uhler presented the Taxfighter Award to Jones at a ceremony on Capitol
Hill.
“Representative Jones’ votes on tax and spending issues in the 106th Congress earned him an ‘A’ grade – and the Taxfighter Award,” said Uhler. “Representative Jones has the distinction of having won the Taxfighter Award during each session of Congress since his arrival on the Washington scene. He has led the battle to eliminate the death (estate) tax and the marriage penalty tax, only to have them vetoed by the Clinton/Gore administration. We look forward to working with Walter in a new, more friendly environment in the 107th Congress,” concluded Uhler. The NTLC publishes a scorecard at the end of each year’s Congress and is the only national taxpayer association scorecard to be carried in the well-respected Almanac of American Politics. Any Member of Congress who receives and “A” on the scorecard becomes eligible to receive the Taxfighter Award. “I am honored to accept this award,” said Rep. Jones. “Our nation’s families deserve relief after their great contributions in getting the economy on the positive track that it currently takes. I appreciate this recognition and will continue fighting to reduce taxes for our American families and the overburdened taxpayers in Eastern North Carolina.” The National Tax Limitation Committee is a non-profit, grass roots activist
corporation based in California. NTLC works throughout the United
States to limit taxes and spending and strives to reduce the size of the
federal government. Lewis K. Uhler can be reached at (916) 786-9400.
