    <title><![CDATA[Holt Introduces Bill To Protect Wildlife Corridors ]]></title>

                                                        (Washington, D.C.) &ndash; U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12), a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, and Rep. Jared Polis (CO-2) today introduced legislation to protect the nation&rsquo;s wildlife corridors, which are under threat from urban sprawl and climate change. Wildlife corridors are strips of land in which a wide range of animals &ndash; wolves, bison, deer, to name a few - can move and plants can propagate. The bill would help give wildlife the freedom they need to roam and help to continue the hunting and wildlife watching that contribute over $68 billion a year to the economy. The Center for Large Landscape Conservation has identified three essential wildlife corridors in New Jersey.]]></description>

    <title><![CDATA[Holt Announces $500,000 For Trenton In EPA Contaminated Site Cleanup Funding ]]></title>

                                                        Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) announced today that the City of Trenton is receiving $500,000 to help clean up contaminated and polluted sites. The funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency&rsquo;s (EPA) Brownfields Program. The funding will be used to clean up three sites: the Anthony Storcella property at 21 Nottingham Way was formerly used for textile and rubber manufacturing, coal distribution, and machine shop activities, and is contaminated with PCBs and metals. The Greg Grant site at 927-939 East State Street and Freeman Lane was formerly an automobile storage garage, laundry, and dry cleaning facility, and is contaminated with polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and metals. Petroleum grant funds will be used to clean up a former gasoline station at 678 North Clinton Avenue, which was built in 1930. It is contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons. ]]></description>

They hope to incorporate the legislation into the overhaul of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, currently known as No Child Left Behind.]]></description>

The bill includes the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA), which is the single largest investment of college aid ever, and makes improvements to the health reform package. The new law will convert all new federal student lending to the more stable and cost-effective Direct Loan program, saving taxpayers $61 billion over ten years and investing in student aid and college initiatives. This program has proven to be the most efficient way to distribute student loans.]]></description>

Rush Holt (NJ-12) today responded to the New Jersey Superior Court decision, which failed to require the expeditious deployment of paper ballots voting systems in New Jersey. The ruling found that &ldquo;[s]ecurity vulnerabilities are present, to some degree, in every voting system. There is simply no such thing as a voting system that is impossible to manipulate.&rdquo; Yet, the ruling allows for the continued use of New Jersey&rsquo;s unauditable touch screen voting machines. ]]></description>
