WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) secured $250,000 to help expand the services and activities available at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. Rep. Towns secured the funding in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2010, approved by the House last August, and was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010 that President Barack Obama signed into law in December 2009.
“Brooklyn residents should have access to this great community center year round,” said Rep. Towns. “The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is working hard to enrich our community, and I am proud to support this effort.”
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum will utilize the funds to construct a canopy that will cover the Community Cultural and Educational Center and allow nearly year round use of the facility. With the new canopy, the Center can continue hosting large school and summer camp groups, free community events and outdoor activities in three out of the four seasons.
“Community centers play a vital role in improving our neighborhoods and fulfill critical needs that often go unmet,” added Congressman Towns.
