WU DISCUSSES JOB CREATION WITH TAIWAN PRESIDENT

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman David Wu met yesterday with Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou to discuss how the United States and Taiwan can work together to improve our respective economies and create jobs.  During the nearly hour-long meeting, Congressman Wu and President Ma focused on strengthening economic sectors that are especially relevant to Oregon.

“America and Taiwan share common goals to reduce pollution and shrink our carbon footprint,” said Wu.  “Oregon is home to many companies that are working to meet those goals, including businesses with significant expertise in fields like clean energy and green construction.  We produce cutting-edge technologies like solar panels and fuel cells and have market-leading experts in green building retrofits and environmentally friendly construction.  If we grow the market for these technologies and services by working with global leaders who share similar environmental goals, we set the stage for long-term economic growth and job creation in Oregon communities.

“For more than 20 years, Oregon business and environmental leaders have been working closely together with their counterparts in Taiwan to improve our global environment.  Yesterday’s meeting was another step to improve our collaboration on these important issues so that we can help Oregon companies expand and create well-paying local jobs.”
