| Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz announced today that Pennsylvania will receive $1.25 million from the Department of Labor to assess economic activity in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries and identify occupations within those industries. The Commonwealth, including Philadelphia and Montgomery County, will also receive $100,000 for green job training programs.
With unemployment continuing to affect the lives of millions of Americans, Schwartz was particularly pleased to see investments go directly toward job training programs in Pennsylvania. The Congresswoman, who is known for her work in Congress to improve energy efficiency and create green communities, applauded the funding announcement for the Commonwealth.
“Smart investments that reduce energy consumption and create jobs in renewable energy industries are critical to America’s economic growth,” Schwartz said. “These funds will identify green job opportunities and help individuals acquire the skills needed to enter and advance in green industries and occupations, and are a major win for Pennsylvania.”
Pennsylvania received the $1.25 million through the State Labor Market Information Improvement grant program, which will be used to analyze labor market data to assess economic activity in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries and identify jobs and skill requirements within those industries. State Workforce Agencies will use this information as the foundation on which to build and implement effective workforce development strategies.
The Department of Labor also provided $100,000 to the Commonwealth through the Green Capacity Building grant program, which is intended to build the green training capacity of current Department of Labor grantees. Grantees will provide education and training in the skills and competencies that are needed in green industries and occupations.
