Rep. Pitts Comments on Speaker Pelosi’s Healthcare Bill

Washington- Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced a new version of the healthcare reform bill, H.R. 3962. The House will consider this bill starting next week and most likely vote on final passage before Veterans’ Day.

Rep. Pitts’ statement follows:

“Today, Speaker Pelosi finally revealed the healthcare bill constructed behind closed doors for these past three months. At the beginning of the year, I was hopeful that there would be opportunities for Republicans and Democrats to work together to make healthcare more affordable and available to all Americans.

“Unfortunately, this is a highly partisan bill that even many Democrats will have a difficult time supporting. I support reform, but this bill will simply lead to a government takeover of 17 percent of our economy. The bill does little to reduce rising costs, raises billions in new taxes and millions of Americans would likely see their premiums increase.”
