Rep. Pitts Opposes Big Government Spending Spree Masquerading as Stimulus

“Most of the money won’t even get into the economy in time to make a difference”

Washington- Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“I opposed this bill because it was a big government spending bill filled with special interest projects and its ability to stimulate the economy in a timely manner is highly questionable.  Most of the money won’t even get into the economy in time to make a difference.

“At a time of serious economic hardship, the American people deserve better.  They deserve a responsible economic recovery policy that is quick and targeted.  I don’t believe the plan we voted on today was either.”

Background

Congressman Pitts distributed an extensive memo to his constituents regarding his vote on the legislation and the alternatives he believed should have been supported instead.  To read the memo, please click here.
