LANGEVIN TO HOST USA PATRIOT ACT
PANEL DISCUSSION

Rhode Islanders Invited to Share their Thoughts on Legislation

(Warwick, R.I.)–Congressman Jim Langevin, a member of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, today announced that he will host a panel discussion followed by a public question and answer period on the USA PATRIOT Act, legislation passed by Congress following the terrorist attacks of September 11th.  The forum will take place on Monday, February 23, at the North Kingstown High School auditorium, 150 Fairway Drive, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.  All Rhode Islanders are welcome to attend.

“From local residents to City and Town Councils to the U.S. Congress, the USA PATRIOT Act has been the subject of spirited debate,” said Congressman Langevin.  “This forum will provide my constituents with an opportunity to participate in that debate and hear from a panel of experts about what they support or oppose in the legislation.  As Congress may soon consider a PATRIOT Act II, I want to hear directly from my constituents as I continue to consider this important topic.”

Those panelists confirmed to participate include:  U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island Craig Moore; Rhode Island American Civil Liberties Union member Steve Brown; Community Activist and former professor Rod Driver; East Greenwich Police Captain Bill Higgins; Community Activist Carolyn Goldman; and a professor from Roger Williams Law School.
