R.I. AIRPORTS AWARDED FEDERAL FUNDS

Block Island, Quonset & Westerly Airports Among Recipients

(Washington, D.C.)–Congressman Jim Langevin today announced three grants awarded from the Federal Aviation Administration for Block Island, T.F. Green, Quonset and Westerly Airports.

“I am pleased the FAA has identified Rhode Island airports as worthy recipients of these funds to improve safety,” said Congressman Jim Langevin.  “Whether large or small, all of our airports must be kept in safe working order.  With these additional funds, our smaller airports will have additional resources in which to support Rhode Island’s critical tourism industry as visitors enjoy all the state has to offer.”

According to the FAA, Block Island Airport has been awarded $200,000 to assess the extent of any environmental impacts that may exist in relation to the anticipated development projects identified in the airport’s five year plan as well as identify siting for a terminal area.  Block Island, Westerly, and Quonset Airports and other area airfields have been awarded $465,000 for apron lighting and perimeter fence improvements to assist the airports in protecting against inadvertent access.  Westerly Airport was also awarded $460,000 to grade a runway safety area.
