LANGEVIN HOSTS ART COMPETITION; R.I. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT TO BE AWARDED COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Winner of “Artistic Discovery” to Receive Scholarship to Savannah School of Art and Free Trip to Washington, D.C.

(Washington, D.C.)–Congressman Jim Langevin will host his Fifth Annual “Rhode Island Artistic Discovery Art Competition” this Sunday Afternoon at the Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence at 1:00 p.m.

In cooperation with representatives from New Urban Arts in Providence, Langevin and a panel of judges comprised of members of Rhode Island’s arts community will announce the winner of the high school art competition.

The winner of Langevin’s art competition will receive:

  • Scholarship to the Savannah College of Art in Georgia
  • Free flight to Washington courtesy of Southwest Airlines
  • Accommodations at a Washington, D.C. hotel
  • Public display of the winning piece in the Capitol Building
“Each year, I host this art competition to encourage young Rhode Islanders to embrace and practice the arts,” said Congressman Langevin. “It is certainly important that we focus academic studies on subjects like math and science, but we cannot neglect all that the arts have to teach and offer. I would also like to express my thanks for the generosity of Southwest Airlines and the Savannah College of Art.”

High school students from Coventry, Cranston, East Greenwich, Narragansett, North Kingstown, Providence, Scituate, South Kingstown, Warwick and Westerly have submitted entries for the art competition.
