LANGEVIN EARNS PERFECT SCORE FROM NATIONAL HISPANIC LEADERSHIP AGENDA

(Warwick, R.I.)–Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced he earned a 100 percent rating on the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda legislative scorecard. The NHLA compiled the scorecard in an effort to inform Hispanics about votes taken that are important to the Hispanic community. The scorecard rates votes cast in the 108th Congress.

“As evidenced by this report, I am committed to securing basic civil rights and providing a better quality of life for all Hispanics,” said Langevin. “I intend to maintain this record and support legislation that grows our communities and supports our increasingly diverse neighborhoods. I am grateful for the recognition from the NHLA.”

The NHLA scorecard is based on votes directly impacting Hispanics and their families. Langevin consistently voted in favor of helping the Hispanic community move ahead on issues including education, health care, economic mobility, workforce and civil rights.

“We applaud NHLA for compiling such a comprehensive scorecard,” said William Shuey, executive director of the International Institute. “Congressman Langevin has always proven to be dedicated and accessible to Rhode Island’s minority community. We are not surprised he has been recognized on a national level for his commitment to his constituents.”

Founded in 1991, the NHLA is a non-partisan coalition of national public policy and civil rights organizations and leaders from across the United States, whose mission is to provide the Hispanic community with greater visibility and a clearer, stronger voice in our nation’s affairs.

The International Institute, located in Providence, serves as a full-service immigration checkpoint and referral center providing educational, legal, and social services to immigrants and refugees throughout Rhode Island and southeastern New England. Founded in 1921, the Institute also provides interpreting and translating services and community education and training programs to local businesses, health care providers, lawyers, government agencies, social service providers, academic organizations and individuals.
