LANGEVIN ANNOUNCES HOUSING GRANTS FOR WEST WARWICK AND NARRAGANSETT

Federal Funds Targeted to Improvement Measures at Local Public Housing Agencies

(WARWICK, R.I.)-Congressman Jim Langevin today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded federal funds to the West Warwick and Narragansett Housing Authorities. The funds were made available under HUD’s Capital Fund Program.

The West Warwick Housing Authority has been slated to receive $317,087; Narragnasett Housing Authority $21,905.

"I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded these funds to West Warwick and Narragansett," said Congressman Langevin. "These housing authorities provide low income Rhode Islanders with safe and affordable shelter. I will continue to push for additional federal funding to ensure that Rhode Island public housing is provided the necessary financial resources to keep their facilities operational."

According to HUD, the funds may be used for the development, financing and modernization of public housing developments and for management improvements. The funds may not be used for luxury improvements; direct social services; cost funded by other HUD programs; and ineligible activities as determined by HUD on a case-by-case basis.
