LANGEVIN STATEMENT ON REED ANNOUNCEMENT
 
(WARWICK, R.I.)-Congressman Jim Langevin today offered the following statement regarding Senator Reed’s announcement that he will oppose Mr. Ashcroft’s nomination:

"I would like to take this opportunity to commend Senator Reed on his decision to oppose Mr. Ashcroft’s nomination to serve as Attorney General.

Throughout the nomination process, I have been in contact with Senator Reed and his office to convey my own thoughts and concerns.

Like Senator Reed, I have great reservations regarding Mr. Ashcroft’s ability to be objective in enforcing the law, especially on issues such as civil rights and gun control."
