(Warwick, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced that the application period has opened for the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program through the Department of Homeland Security. The application period closes on September 15. I encourage all eligible agencies to apply for this funding as it allows local agencies to purchase equipment needed to enhance daily operations and improve emergency responses, said Langevin. It is important to give agencies the discretion to make improvements beyond their standard equipment, which only makes for safer communities. Over the last year a number of agencies in the state were awarded CEDAP funding including the West Warwick Police Department, the Town of North Kingstown, the Narragansett Police Department and the East Greenwich Police Department. The Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program provides smaller law enforcement and emergency agencies with equipment that will enhance and support regional response, mutual aid and interoperability. CEDAP, recognizing the importance of new equipment training and education to ensure proper deployment and operation, also requires training session attendance prior to receipt of the equipment. CEDAP provides travel, lodging and a limited per diem for one agency representative to attend training. For questions or assistance please call the Office of Congressman Jim Langevin at 401-732-9400.
