(Warwick, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin recently hosted a Homeland Security Forum on Domestic Nuclear Detection at the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick. Vayl Oxford, director of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) was the Congressman’s featured guest. “Director Oxford outlined the goals and objectives of the DNDO and how Rhode Island’s first responders can work with his office to make our communities safer,” said Langevin, Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity and Science and Technology.
The DNDO was established in April 2005, to improve the nation’s capability to detect and report unauthorized attempts to import, possess, store, develop, or transport nuclear or radiological material for use against our country. Director Oxford was appointed by the President in December 2006 and reports directly to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
