Rhode Island Fire Departments Recived Funding |

WASHINTON, DC - In an effort to enhance Rhode Island's emergency response preparedness, Rhode Island’s congressional delegation today announced that fire departments throughout the state will receive $564,383 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) through the Department of Homeland Security. These grants will provide for the equipment and training needs of the following five departments in order for first responders to more effectively meet the needs of their communities: “This federal investment will ensure that local firefighters have the gear and equipment they need to protect themselves and our communities,” said Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Patrick Kennedy and Jim Langevin. “In tough economic times this much needed federal assistance will make a big difference for our firefighters and local communities.” These stations were selected through a competitive peer review process based on the need to enhance response capabilities and protect communities from fire-related hazards. These grants will allow the fire departments to provide fire protection coverage in compliance with National Fire Protection Association standards. |
