(Warwick, R.I.) - Congressman Jim Langevin will join the Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday August 12 at the Providence Veterans Medical Center to continue raising awareness about the economic stimulus payment – who qualifies, how to complete the form and where to get assistance.

“Many people still don’t realize that they qualify for the stimulus payment or that they can still apply for the benefit,” said Langevin. “I am looking forward to visiting the medical center and speaking with veterans about the importance of signing up for this valuable assistance.”

Many Rhode Islanders, who normally are not required to file an income tax return, are eligible for the economic stimulus payment. The IRS estimates that about 22,000 Rhode Islanders have not claimed their stimulus payment.

“To reach the remaining recipients, the IRS is working with national partners, members of Congress and state and local officials to ensure that assistance to eligible people is available,” said Jodonna Powell, IRS Supervisor Stakeholder, Partnership and Education.  “It is not too late to file, but the sooner people file, the faster they'll receive their money.”

Eligible residents could still receive the $300-$600 payment for an individual and $600-$1,200 for a married couple, if they have qualifying income. If the resident supports children or grandchildren under 17, they may also qualify for an additional $300 per child. The Stimulus Payment Return must be filed by October 15, 2008.
