Langevin Denounces North Korean Missile Launch

(Warwick, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), member of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees, today reacted to North Korea's launch of seven missiles, including the failed launch of a Taepodong-2 long-range missile:

“I have strongly supported efforts of the United States to engage in diplomatic negotiations to end North Korea's nuclear program peacefully, but its provocative decision to test its missile program demonstrates its unwillingness to act responsibly.

“By launching the Taepodong-2 test on the 4th of July, it is clear it is clear that Kim Jong Il wants the attention of the U.S. government. Moving forward, the U.S., along with China, Russia, South Korea and Japan need to remain unified and condemn this aggressive action as well as the North Korean missile program.

“The failure of the Taepodong-2 missile test will likely encourage the North Koreans to correct the problems learned from Tuesday’s launch, and the international community must remain committed to working quickly to address this problem.”
