WARWICK, RI - Congressman Jim Langevin today released the following statement on Rhode Island making it through the first round of the Race to the Top competition. Rhode Island was one of 16 finalists out of 41 applications.

“This is exciting news for educators and students across Rhode Island and moves us one step closer to the critical resources needed to jumpstart our vision for improving education for all students. While economic difficulties continue to persist, I firmly believe now is the time to fund and implement innovative education strategies for the 21st century. Investing in our children's education not only has long-term benefits for our workforce, but it also delivers on our nation's promise to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed. I look forward to supporting our state department of education as it enters the next phase of the Race to the Top competition.”
