(Warwick, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced that Anne Nolan, president of Crossroads Rhode Island, will be his 2008 State of the Union guest. The President will deliver the State of the Union Monday, January 28, in Washington, DC. “I am honored to have Anne accompany me this year to President Bush’s final State of the Union,” said Langevin. “I have always tried to invite people that raise a greater awareness about certain important issues facing our nation and state today. Anne, through her tireless work at Crossroads, fits that description. She works everyday to make sure those less fortunate have a warm, safe place to lay their heads at night as well as all the support services they need to help get them back on their feet.” Nolan joined Crossroads in 2000 and in that time has added many programs and grown the organization’s infrastructure. Formerly Travelers Aid, Crossroads, under Nolan’s leadership, has opened a new headquarters on Broad Street overlooking Interstate 95, complete with a state-of-the-art medical clinic, and launched Operation First Step, an emergency assessment shelter to help those new to homelessness. She also led the effort to renovate a former funeral home on Broad Street into Family Center with shelter and support services for up to 15 families, among other initiatives. Crossroads is the largest provider of comprehensive services to the homeless and disconnected in the state of Rhode Island. The agency provides a safe, respectful environment for people to improve their quality of life through life skills training and referral and advocacy services. -30- |
