| (Washington, DC) - The U.S House of Representatives gave its endorsement of Congressman James E. Clyburn’s bill to name the post office located at 1901 West Evans Street in honor of the late Dr. Roswell N. Beck. Congressman Clyburn introduced House Resolution 1055 following Dr. Beck's passing as a tribute to his significant contributions to Florence County.
In speaking on the floor of the House today in support of this legislation, Congressman Clyburn said, “Dr. Beck holds an esteemed place in the hearts of many South Carolinians. I was particularly fond of, and owe a great debt of gratitude to him. His work as a physician, humanitarian, community activist, and family man has touched the lives of multitudes.
“Mr. Speaker, I do not believe I would be standing here today were it not for the courageousness and fearlessness of this man who so many of us consider a hero,” he continued.
Congressman Clyburn appreciated the bi-partisan support of his colleagues on this legislation.
"This is extraordinary recognition that Dr. Beck made a difference in the lives of so many Pee Dee area residents," Congressman Clyburn said. "His contributions are appreciated universally even by those know who didn't have the honor of knowing him personally."
Dr. Roswell N. Beck. Sr. died in January. The bill now goes to the Senate for passage before it can be signed into law.
