(Washington, DC) - Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn is pleased to announce that South Carolina State University has received a $198,483 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to plan for the Master of Business Administration degree program in agribusiness. This two-year grant through the USDA’s 1890 Capacity Building Grants Program will help create this MBA program through the School of Business.
“This is an exciting opportunity for South Carolina State to increase the number of minorities in agribusiness who are underrepresented in this field,” Congressman Clyburn said. “The rigors of a MBA program in agriculture with a strong emphasis on business will attract high quality students and make graduates more attractive to future employers.”
The grant will be used to accomplish the following goals: (1) develop a curriculum and detailed course content for the MBA program, (2) engage in faculty development activities to enhance faculty expertise in teaching the MBA courses, (3) develop linkages with agribusiness firms through a collaboration with the Management Education Alliance and ERS/USDA, (4) enhance student learning opportunities, (5) provide students with technology and library resources, and (6) implement the MBA program.
This program will be created at SCSU with collaboration from the University of Florida, Texas A & M University, Purdue University, Tennessee State University, the USDA and the management Education Alliance from private sector.
