Congressman Clyburn Questions President Bush’s Remarks on Economy in South Carolina

(Columbia, SC) - House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair James E. Clyburn (SC-6) issued the following statement today in reaction to President Bush’s scheduled visit to South Carolina to talk about the economy.

“The President’s attempts to identify with BMW’s success while totaling ignoring the 91,000 South Carolinians who have lost jobs under his administration is indicative of his denial of the stark economic realties of communities throughout South Carolina and this country.  A ‘jobless recovery’ is Voodoo economics for the 21st Century, and of no consolation to the 400 Georgetown Steel, 600 Mack Truck, and 630 Springs Industries workers who have joined the unemployment lines over the last year.”
