| Washington, DC: Today Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) congratulated the Grand Prairie Arts Council for being awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The funds will support "Music on Main," an October 2005 concert series and the April 2006 "Concerts in the Park" series.
"It is important to support the arts," said Marchant. "This grant will help the Grand Prairie Arts Council continue to organize and promote events that enrich the lives citizens of all ages."
The Grand Prairie Arts Council will present a variety of music genres and repertory to audiences of all ages, free of charge, at both events. The first annual "Music on Main" will be a concert series throughout the month of October. Each Saturday afternoon of the month citizens can enjoy an outstanding line up of professional entertainment at the corner of Main Street and NW 2nd Street in downtown Grand Prairie.
The fifth annual "Concerts in the Park" series will feature spring evening concerts offering swing, blues, rock and roll, choral, orchestral, and Texas country music. Concerts will take place every Friday evening in April at the Turner Park Gazebo, located at Belt Line Road and Park Square North in Grand Prairie.
Both events are expected to be attended by many Grand Prairie area residents, as well as visitors from the Dallas-Fort Worth region. They should also attract tourists from within the state of Texas and around the nation.
"It is exciting to see the arts flourish in North Texas," noted Marchant. "Both of these events are family-oriented, and we are lucky that the Grand Prairie Arts Council, with assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, produces such activities that everyone can enjoy for free."-
