| Washington, DC: Today at an organizational meeting of the House Government Reform Committee, Representative Kenny Marchant (TX-24) was named Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations. The Subcommittee is chaired by Representative Christopher Shays (CT-04).
"I am grateful for this opportunity to serve as Vice-Chair of such an active, vital subcommittee," said Marchant. "I look forward to a successful two years of working with Congressman Shays and the rest of the Subcommittee."
The Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations is widely considered one of the most active on Capitol Hill and primarily focuses on terrorism. The Subcommittee extensively studies domestic preparedness, response capabilities and military force protection, Department of Defense weapon acquisition programs, internal State Department reforms, and Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities. It also possesses oversight responsibility for the Department of Homeland Security.
"Terrorism, domestic and abroad, is a prominent threat to the daily lives of Americans. It is a significant concern in my district, as we are home to one of the largest, busiest international airports in the country. I welcome the responsibility to serve on a subcommittee that examines these risks and works to ensure a safer environment for Metroplex residents and Americans on the whole," said Marchant.
Representative Shays expressed his pleasure at Marchant's subcommittee assignment. "I am delighted to have someone with the knowledge and commitment of Congressman Marchant to assist me in leading this important Subcommittee. I am confident his presence will be of great benefit throughout this session of Congress."
The Government Reform Committee is Congress's primary oversight and investigative arm of the federal government; it holds government-wide jurisdiction. In addition to his Vice-Chairmanship, Marchant was also named to the Subcommittees on Energy and Resources and Federal Workforce and Agency Organization.
