Langevin Disappointed with Campaign Finance Ruling

The Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission is extremely disappointing.  By ending restrictions on corporate campaign expenditures, today’s decision was a setback to the fundamental concept that our democracy should be based on the power of ideas and not the power of money.

I will fight to bring greater transparency and accountability to our campaign finance laws, and I applaud Representative Van Hollen’s call for hearings to examine legislative options to restore the democracy our Founding Fathers envisioned.  I look forward to working towards a system where the voices of real Americans will not be drowned out by the checkbooks of the special interests.
