Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) a member of the House Ways and Means Committee secured $1.6 million in key funding for The Woodland Park and Ride through the Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill. The bill passed the House late last night, 381-39.
"Park and Rides represent one of the most cost effective ways for commuters to get from their homes to work About 2,000 people a day rely on this affordable and reliable means of transportation. The money earmarked in the Transportation bill is good news for The Woodlands and all Houston area commuters concerned about congestion,"said Brady.
Half of the $1.6 million contained in the bill is earmarked for the construction of 600 additional parking spaces at The Woodlands Parkway Park & Ride Facility. This facility services the Houston Central Business District and Greenway Plaza and is located in the northwest corner of The Woodlands. The remainder of the funds will go toward improving the existing ride express services from The Woodlands Park & Ride to the Houston central business district.
In last year's Transportation Appropriations bill, The Woodlands Park and Ride received roughly $1.2 million. Brady continues to work hard in Washington to make sure that The Woodlands and all of the eighth district receives it's fair share of federal transportation dollars. |
