Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin Brady along with the Houston region Delegation was successful in securing $20 million for the new Houston TRACON project in this year's Transportation Treasury and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill. TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) manages all radar and airline traffic operating within Houston's airspace.
TRACON is designed to help air traffic controllers manage the increasingly complex air traffic flows at large airports. The TRACON facility benefits air traffic controllers by reducing stress and workload, and benefits air travelers by reducing delays and increasing safety.
"Today's investment in the Houston TRACON benefits Houston and will help safeguard the millions of passengers who fly in the skies above Houston each day. Additionally, Houston's thriving business community relies on the smooth operation of passenger and commercial air traffic. With the money earmarked today for a new TRACON customers, clients, tourists, and goods can continue to flow in and out of our region without delay," said Brady.
Each year more than 38 million people zip in and out of Houston's two major airports, Bush Intercontinental and Hobby Airport. In the year 1999 the Houston Airport System handled 42 million travelers. Flooded in 2003, Houston's TRACON was in much need of improvement and modernization. |
