Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) issued the following statement regarding the passage of the legislation responding to the 9/11 Commission recommendations:
“Intelligence improvements alone are not enough to keep America safe from future terrorist attacks. We must get serious about border security -- preventing terrorists from entering our country illegally, obtaining false documents and then moving freely about the country to launch their next attack.
“Doubling the number of border patrol agents, tripling the number of immigration and customs agents and adding 40,000 new detention beds for immigration violators are all solid steps in the right direction. But I am sorely disappointed we could not convince the Senate to insist on refusing to issue drivers licenses to people with false credentials or to abolish the use of political asylum to give terrorists open access to America’s neighborhoods. We must close these security loopholes immediately and we’ll soon have a new Senate to do it.”
