Brady Announces City of Jersey Village Awarded

Assistance for Firefighters Grant

Over $50,000 on its way to local firefighters

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) is proud to announce that the City of Jersey Village Emergency Services has been awarded a $52,245 grant by Homeland Security’s 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

“Awards like this are vital to hometown communities like the City of Jersey Village.  Federal grants make it possible for local firefighters to purchase state of the art lifesaving equipment.  Homeland Security depends on our first responders – the brave men and women in our community who volunteer their time to save lives and respond to emergencies. Jersey Village firefighters will now have added resources to make it safer and easier to do their jobs,” said Brady.

City of Jersey Village Fire Chief Kathleen Hutchins added, “This grant is vitally important to a department like ours that is primarily made up of volunteers.  It is their dedication that let’s us do our job at an economical cost.  We should provide them with the best level of protection we can when they are willing to give up everything to protect others.”

City of Jersey Village Emergency Services will use the federal grant to upgrade and purchase protective clothing and breathing apparatus equipment.  They also plan to purchase a new thermal imaging camera to help expedite the rescue of firefighters and civilians trapped in burning buildings.

Homeland Security’s 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards one-year grants directly to local fire departments, enhancing their abilities to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities.

This vital program seeks to support departments by providing them the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and their firefighting personnel.  These awards will be used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, fund fire fighter health and safety programs, acquire new fire apparatus, enhance EMS programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs.
